Summary of Role:

GLOBAL FOUNDRIES Research is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Silicon Photonics Technology device design engineer responsible for device component modeling and simulation.

Essential Responsibilities:

Report into the GLOBALFOUNDRIES research organization based in Malta NY.

Develop current and future Silicon Photonics components for GLOBALFOUNDRIES R&D efforts

Design, Modeling and Simulation of silicon photonics active and passive devices and components such as modulators, detectors, waveguides, edge and top couplers, PSR s, heaters and supporting FETs and FEOL and BEOL passive elements within the general technology capability

Develop physics based simulation tools

Evaluate design solutions with commercially available simulation tools

Design and implement solutions to meet internal and customer requirements

Provide technical interface to customers specific to aligning their requirements with our photonics technology road map and current status

Design and conduct optical experiments as needed to support design efforts

Actively collaborate (work) with device and integration development organization in East Fishkill to define qualified process flow meeting the electrical and optical requirements

Closely work with supporting organizations (reliability, PDK, design manual, ground-rule, etc) to exchange technical content and to meet schedule

Supports the development team by designing test structures for foundry process control.

Define MPW and test-site content for development of the photonics device library.

Perform all activities in a safe ad responsible manner and support all Environmental, Health, Safety & Security requirements and programs

Required Qualifications:

Education/Experience - Ph.D. Degree in Electrical Engineering or Solid State Physics with solid background in optics or photonics

Years of Experience: 6 Years of Relevant Work Experience

Minimal Travel Required

Language Fluency:English (Written & Verbal)

Preferred Qualifications:

Detailed understanding of current capabilities and market trends in Silicon Photonics

5+ years of experience in development of silicon photonics components for communication applications

Proficiency with photonics simulation software such as Lumerical

Demonstrated drive and aptitude for research and development

Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Energetic with excellent interpersonal skills, Self-motivated, with strong analytical and problem-solving skills

Demonstrate ability to work well within a global matrixed team or environment with minimal supervision

Demonstrated ability to communicate well with all levels of the organization and experience in working with external constituencies

Strong organizational skills; demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and able to react to shifting priorities to meet business needs

Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines and commitments
